ORBIT · independent engines and event Tape

ORBIT 0.4.1: the actual FM-1 firmware compiled to WebAssembly. HOME edits note and drum events; it is not an audio tape recorder.

SWARM · PULSE · FM4

Twelve original presets begin the PRESETS list. SWARM layers six detuned oscillators; PULSE combines dual pulse oscillators and PWM; FM4 provides four operators and three routes. These are independent implementations, not OP-1 factory sounds.

FIRST LIGHT demo song

Stop playback. Hold HOME, turn SELECT to SYSTEM, scroll PRESETS to DEMO SONG, then press OCT+ twice and PLAY. OCT− cancels the first confirmation. This loads a four-bar loop at 108 BPM with FM4 bass, SWARM chords, PULSE melody and 808 drums. Save your work first: loading replaces the working project, including its normal autosave. Numbered project slots remain untouched.

LFO: source and depth

LFO SOURCE 1/2 sets RATE, WAVE, PHS and FADE. Press LFO again for DEST 2/2: PIT, FLT, SHP and AMP depths. Zero depths mean no sound change. For an obvious effect, set DEST KNOB4 / AMP to about 50%, then adjust SOURCE RATE while holding a note. PHS and FADE affect a new phrase: release all keys and retrigger. SHP modulates harmonic balance in SWARM, pulse width in PULSE and FM depth in FM4.

Tape controls

KNOB1 sets the head; KNOB2/3 set the inclusive region; KNOB4 chooses COPY or LIFT. OCT− copies or lifts; OCT+ drops at the head and overwrites destination events. ALGORITHM selects the track.

Modes and modules

Synth: EDIT. Drum: select track 4, then EDIT. Event Tape: HOME. Mixer: GLO on the Tape. Sound modules T1–T4 are EDIT / ENV / FX / LFO. The four controls are blue / green / white / orange; repeated presses keep the existing parameter pages.

Mixer

KNOB1–4 adjust track 1–4 levels. SELECT opens four-track PAN, then TRACK: global SWING / selected-track LEVEL / LEN / PAN. Press GLO again for global settings. SEQ opens the retained step sequencer.

Test scope

Browser flash saves locally, separately for ORBIT. Bluetooth, USB/SysEx sample upload and hardware boot checks are not supported by this emulator. Do not enter hardware calibration.

SLOOP — HOW TO PLAY

SLOOP is a four-track groovebox: three synth tracks and a drum track, a 64-step sequencer, songs and punch-in effects. The golden rule: hold a function button and the 16 white keys and four knobs change job — the screen always shows what they do. Tap the same button instead to open its pages; hold a layer and tap HOME to lock it open.

FIRST STEPS

  • Play the keys — the selected track's sound plays. ALGORITHM selects the track 1–4, PRESETS changes its sound, SELECT moves between pages.
  • PLAY starts the loop. REC while playing records on top (overdub), your timing preserved.
  • Hold REC ~2 s to clear the track; EDIT + OCT−/OCT+ is undo / redo.

RECORDING A FIRST LOOP

  • On an empty project, tap REC first: the REC screen appears.
  • free — no click: just play, and your playing sets the tempo and loop length.
  • tempo — record to the tempo you set; 1, 2 or 4 bars; optional one-bar count-in.

DRUMS — TRACK 4

16 drum sounds on the white keys, kick to cowbell; a black key doubles its left neighbour for fast rolls. Hold OCT−/OCT+ while playing for ghost and hard hits. 37 kits on the PRESETS knob — a sampled acoustic kit and 32 synthesized styles: 808, 909, trap, house, jungle, chiptune and more.

SOUNDS

Nine engines — analog, 4-op FM, phase distortion, trio, organ, voice, granular, lo-fi chip, sampler. 68 level-matched factory sounds browsed by kind, 32 user slots. One-key chords in SCL: TRIAD, 7TH, 9TH, SUS4, POWER. Envelope and LFO pages under ENV and LFO.

SONGS

Save up to four sections A–D (SAVE + keys 5–8), launch them live on the next bar (SAVE + keys 1–4), and record the arrangement as you play it (SAVE + key 14). In song mode, PLAY runs the whole chain.

FELUCCA — HOW TO PLAY

Felucca is a multi-engine synthesizer: four tracks with an engine and sound each, thirteen engines, a 64-step sequencer with chords, chance and motion recording, and a modulation matrix. Navigation: tap a page button for its page, tap again for the next; HOME returns home. On action pages and in dialogs, OCT+ confirms and OCT− goes back.

FIRST STEPS

  • ALGORITHM selects the track 1–4 on every page; PRESETS browses sounds; SELECT sets the tempo on home; KNOB 1–4 edit the four cards on screen.
  • PLAY starts; REC records live with overdub, on every page.
  • Save a sound: stop, tap SAVE, pick a slot with KNOB 1, then OCT+ twice — name it with the keys.

QUICK LAYERS

  • FX held — punch-in effects: repeat, reverse, filter sweeps, tape stop, freeze, a harmonizer with shimmer; mutes on the black keys.
  • GLO held — the mixer: levels, mutes, global settings.
  • SCL held — key and scale: 16 scales, white-key mode, one-finger chord keys with voicings.
  • EDIT held — editing shortcuts on keys and knobs.
  • Double-tap any of the four to keep its layer open hands-free; tap again to close.

HOLD FOR MORE

  • SAVE held — one-step undo.
  • SEQ held — the song: chain patterns A–D.
  • HOME held — the menu (below).

SEQUENCER

64 steps per track with chords, ties, accent, slide and per-step chance; a piano-roll view; a drum grid — white keys are steps, black keys are lanes; motion recording of knob moves, marked by a motion icon on the cards it drives; divisions from 4 bars to 1/32. Loading a sound never touches your patterns.

THE THIRTEEN ENGINES

ANALOG two osc + noise, resonant low-pass · FM6 6-operator FM, 32 algorithms (Dexed-based) · PHASE phase distortion · LOFI chiptune with 4-bit wave RAM · SAMPLE multisamples + user slots · VOICE formant vowels · TRIO 3 osc, ring mod, sync · WHEEL tonewheel organ with rotary · GRAIN granular · PHYS modal resonators, strings, membranes · NOISE analog to digital noises · DRUM the drum engine.

Per track: distortion and slicer; sends to chorus, delay and reverb (ROOM or SPRING); a modulation matrix with 4 slots per track.

THE MENU — HOLD HOME

PRESETS moves through the rows, KNOB 1 or OCT+ changes the value, hold HOME again to leave. Highlights: COLOR (ten palettes incl. PAPER, NIGHT, HI-CON), STYLE FLAT/LINE, LARGE tall knob cards, LEDS, KNOB ACCEL, FX LATCH, BPM LOCK.

IN THIS EMULATOR

  • Hold means click-and-hold or touch-and-hold a button — or hold its computer key (1–0 for the function buttons; full map in the line below).
  • Knobs turn by dragging vertically or scrolling; on a rotated phone, drag along the device's own up — toward its knobs.
  • Your work autosaves to this browser, per firmware: projects, settings and user presets survive reloads and firmware switches. The first save lands ~20 s after power-on at the earliest — the firmware's own pacing.
  • Not available here: the USB web editor, sample upload, USB audio and firmware install — and avoid MENU > HARDWARE CALIBRATION, which waits on the real key matrix.
